2030 growth predictions for Rwanda

11 Mar 2020

With an estimated increase of 15% in its population by 2030, Rwanda is set to grow by more than 2.5 million people according to ABiQ’s intelligent forecasting tool. This will bring Rwanda’s total to around 15.3 million.

The country’s GDP is about to cross US $9.5 billion, approximately $750 per capita. Its economy is agriculturally based, which makes up the bulk of its exports.

The increase in population will drive electricity demand to reach 580MW, and the development of 1.6 million new housing units. An estimated 400 thousand square metres of retail space will also be required.

Over 16,500 new teachers will be needed to support the 3.5 million children estimated to be at school during the next decade. This has been calculated on a ratio of 30 children per teacher.

To support the increasing needed for healthcare, ABiQ estimates that 17 new hospitals will be required by 2030. This opens up job opportunities for 420 new physicians to maintain the current standard of living.
