Cameroon’s population has been growing at a rate of 2.6% per annum. ABiQ predicts the population is expected to grow to 31.7 million by 2030 from the current 26.5 million.
The GDP in 2019 was around $39 billion equal to slightly over $1,500 per capita. Cameroon’s economy depends on agriculture, mining and the service sector. However, oil remains its main export commodity making it a diversified economy.
Outlook
200 Megawatt of additional electricity capacity will be required by 2030.
The government has taken an initiative to improve the supply of drinking water in rural areas. This will result in an additional potable water requirement of 381 million cubic metres per annum by 2030.
Several retailers are expanding their network and many others are entering the market. As a result, ABiQ predicts an additional 600,000 square metres of retail space will be required by 2030.
With the population growth, there will be a requirement to build more schools and developing more teachers as an additional 1.4 million children will be going to school.
In spite of the current COVID-19 pandemic, to service the population growth, an estimated 37 more hospitals will be required by 2030.
