Chad’s population is expected to grow by 20% and cross 19.5 million by 2030. Even with Chad’s fertility rate decreasing, it remains one of the highest in the world.

The economy has heavily relied on agriculture in the past. Oil started contributing towards the economy after Chad became an oil-producing country in 2003. The country had a GDP of $12 billion in 2019 or $860 per capita.

Power and Water

The country is rich with energy resources yet has limited access to electricity. Chad aims to improve that within the next 10 years by using its energy resources. Investment will be required to utilize these resources and expand the electricity supply. We believe that the country will need an additional electricity capacity of 130 megawatts within the next decade to maintain the current status quo.

Fewer rainfalls, growing population, and the shrinking of lake chad are some of the factors causing serious challenges in the water sector. The government is working with multiple partners to implement a water distribution network. It will need an additional 235 million cubic meters of potable water per annum by 2030 to meet the challenges faced by the sector.

Retail

The retail sector is underdeveloped as of now. Most of the population practice sustenance farming and prefer going to the village market. The increasing population will result in a demand for additional retail space. Our business intelligence tool predicts an additional requirement of 360,000 square meters of retail space by the end of the next decade.

Healthcare

Being one of the poorest countries in the world, Chad has very limited resources when it comes to healthcare. A growing population will only add more to social challenges if additional hospitals are not built. It will require 22 additional hospitals within 10 years from now to maintain the current healthcare standard, let alone improve its healthcare sector.
