Mauritius to grow 1% by 2030

28 Jun 2020

Mauritius is an island country located off the Eastern coast of Africa. It has a population of 1.2 million. ABiQ predicts it to grow by 1% in the next 10 years.

Mauritius has a middle-income diversified economy, thanks to a boost in its tourism sector and exports of textiles and sugar. It had a GDP of $15 billion or $11,360 per capita in 2019.

Political and social stability has resulted in favorable conditions for foreign investment. The government is encouraging investment by providing a range of incentives as well as creating policies that make it easier for high net worth individuals to invest in the country. The country ensures that the licensing procedure is simple while making taxation attractive for investors.

Power and Water

Almost all the population has access to electricity in Mauritius. The government is planning to increase the use of renewable sources of energy from the current level of around 22% to 35% by 2025. We expect no additional demand for electricity capacity for the next decade with the exception of supply upgrades.

Entire Mauritius has access to potable water across the island. Half of the potable water supplied to the population comes from groundwater. With the exception of efficiency improvements, we don’t foresee a significant demand for additional potable water till 2030.

Retail:

Mauritius has a low risk and business-friendly market that has attracted international retailers. The retail market won’t be requiring any additional space for the next 10 years as the population growth is going to be minimal.

Healthcare:

Mauritius is one of the fastest-growing Economies of Africa. The government has focused on its healthcare system and helped it improve over time. The country can act as a good medical tourism center as the country has excellent healthcare. We don’t expect any additional hospitals required over a period of 10 years.
