Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. Using its forecasting tool, ABiQ predicts its population will grow by 18% over a period of 10 years to 2.8 million from the current 2.4 million. The surge in population will increase pressure on the water sector and infrastructure.
Additional Requirement for Water
An aging infrastructure with poor maintenance results in wastage of already depleting water resources. Botswana has experienced droughts in the past and a peak in demand for water could result in a crisis.
Ignoring any industrialisation requirements and covering only population demand, ABiQ can predict the country will require an additional 31 million cubic metres of potable water capacity by 2030.
