There are more than $24 Billion of active Water Projects in Saudi Arabia and the UAE
Rapid growing populations in a desert region mean water is an extremely scarce commodity. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are investing in water processing capacity. As per ABiQ, there are more than $24 billion of active water projects in Saudi Arabia and UAE.
Population numbers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates has grown at a rapid pace over the last couple of decades. The water table is under pressure with agriculture depleting water levels quicker than nature can replenish it.
With the increased consumption comes higher levels of wastewater that needs to be processed. Major cities have geographically expanded at such a pace that infrastructure can’t keep up.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have more than $24 billion of active water projects. Thirty-six percent of this is currently under construction. ABiQ estimates both countries will spend more than $1.8 billion on these projects in 2021 and will increase to more than $8 billion in 2022.
