North Africa is investing more than $60 billion in its transport infrastructure

Rail projects lead the transport sector investments in North Africa. The North African transport sector currently has more than $60 billion of active projects.

North Africa’s population will increase an estimated 16 per cent over the next decade. From the current 250 million people, it is forecast to grow to 285 million by 2031. To improving the movement of goods and people, North African countries are investing more than $60 billion in transport projects. 

More than 80 per cent of the projects currently under construction is in Egypt. The largest of these projects are all rail-related and include the Cairo to Luxor rail line and the Cairo Metro project.  

Arab Contractors has the largest share of the projects with more than 20 per cent of the work currently under construction in North Africa. China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has the second-largest workload, followed by Orascom Construction in third place. Systra, Cairo based EHAF Consulting Engineers and Studi Group are the most active consultants in North Africa’s Transport sector.
