Top 5 Projects in Senegal

Senegal has close to $20 billion of active projects. Excellent ICT infrastructure enables Senegal to position itself as a leader in the region with billions of foreign direct investment into critical sectors. 

Senegal in West Africa has a population of just more than 17 million. The population will grow by more than 28 per cent over the next ten years to 22 million people. Excellent ICT infrastructure benefitted Senegal with significant growth in the services sector employing more than 50 per cent of the workforce and contributing a similar share to the economy.

This growth has led to significant investments in agriculture and downstream chemical sectors fueling the economic development witnessed over the last few years. There are currently close to $20 billion of active projects in Senegal. ABiQ’s top 5 projects in Senegal are:

Akon City

This project covers more than 8 square kilometres and will include residential, leisure, entertainment, education and an industrial complex. SAPCO Senegal SA is the developer.  Construction work recently started on the first 1,800 bed hospital as part of the development.

Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG Phase 1

Kosmos Energy and BP are developing the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim offshore field and will include a floating LNG vessel. Phase one of the project will deliver 2.5 million metric tonnes of LNG annually. McDermottTechnipFMC and Baker Hughes is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction work.

Diamniadio Lake City

Located in Dakar, Diamniadio Lake City will be developed over a 1.4 square kilometres area and will include residential, commercial, education, leisure, entertainment, retail and sporting facilities. The joint developers of the project are Semer Holding and the Municipal Development Agency.

Ndayane Port

DP World Dakar will develop the 6 square kilometres Ndayane Port close to the Blaise Diagne International Airport. Phase 1 of the development includes a new 840-metre quay wall and dredging a marine channel to accommodate larger vessels. The second phase will consist of a second quay and additional port infrastructure.

Sangomar Field Development Phase 1

Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore, Sangomar Deep Offshore (RSSD) JV is developing the Sangomar Field by adding 23 deepwater wells and a permanently moored floating production, storage and production (FPSO) facility to store 1.5 million barrels of processed oil. MODEC International is the lead contractor on the project.
