Namibia has ambitious transport projects in the pipeline

A vast arid country in South-West Africa with a relatively small population, Namibia needs industry for future growth. To attract investment, it must develop a state of the art transport infrastructure.

Namibia recently completed a multi-million dollar upgrade of its port in Walvisbay. It now needs to develop the transport infrastructure to cover the country and connect it beyond its borders. This network will attract foreign investment in the manufacturing and industrial sectors which the state of 2.5 million people desperately needs. Not just for the jobs it will create, but also subsidising utilities such as power and water.

One of the largest transport projects is the high-speed Trans Kalahari Railway which will connect the port of Walvisbay to Botswana and South Africa. This project is part of the African Unions 2063 development goals. It should proceed with the backing of the African Union and probably the African Development Bank as one of the financiers.
