ExxonMobil Foundation Donates To Women’s Entrepreneurship Training Programme in Mozambique

3 Jun 2022

The ExxonMobil Foundation has renewed its funding for the Business Women Connect (BWC) programme in Mozambique. The Business Women Connect (BWC) programme focuses on business training and has, so far, helped more than 1,000 women in Mozambique enhance and upscale their entrepreneurial skills.

The ExxonMobil Foundation

The ExxonMobil Foundation is the primary philanthropic arm of the ExxonMobil Corporation. The ExxonMobil Foundation places a key strategic focus on education and promoting women as catalysts for economic development. Through this round of funding, the ExxonMobil Foundation has contributed $300,000 towards the Business Women Connect (BWC) education and training initiatives.

“The BWC Program consists of a 4-month training programme for female business owners, which is followed by bi-monthly mentoring sessions designed to propel the graduates to become market leaders in their industries and enable women to increase their monthly income by up to 30%,“ as outlined by ExxonMobil representatives in an April 2022 press release.

Business Women Connect

According to the same press release, this new tranche of funding will go towards two initiatives managed by TechnoServe Mozambique, to train an additional 180 women in 2022, namely:

  • Business Women Connect (BWC) initiatives in Maputo.
  • A new empowerment programme focused on women in northern Mozambique.

“ExxonMobil is focused on advancing women’s issues and promoting the empowerment of women in Mozambique. Through the BWC Program, ExxonMobil has been working with Technoserve Mozambique to promote economic opportunities for women across Mozambique, strengthening families and communities,” said Jos Evens, General Manager for ExxonMobil Mozambique.

TechnoServe

TechnoServe has been providing technical assistance to Mozambique’s industries, agribusinesses, and entrepreneurs with high-growth potential for more than 20 years.

“As TechnoServe Mozambique we accept the challenge of supporting women entrepreneurs with the growth of their businesses knowing that the profit generated by these businesses will be invested in their families and thus in the Economic and Social development,” stated Jane Grob, Managing Director of TechnoServe Mozambique.
