The UAE is investing more than $4 billion in Water Projects

The United Arab Emirates is investing more than $4 billion in active water projects. There are currently just over $3 billion under construction with the balance still in the ore-execution phase.

Over the last couple of decades, the UAE’s population has grown considerably. A booming real-estate market, driven by a foreign investment policy that offered extraordinary growth opportunities, combined with a bustling oil and gas industry meant a large Expat population requiring necessary infrastructure.

There are currently just over $4 billion of active water projects. $3 billion is under construction with the balance in the pre-execution phase. The largest developer is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) with just shy of 40 per cent of the active projects market.

The most recent project to proceed is the Hasyan Independent Water Project with Utico appointed as the developer. It set the record for the lowest localised water tariff at just $0.277 per cubic metre.
