Top 5 Healthcare Projects in Africa

The healthcare sector in Africa is straining under the mense pressure brought on by COVID-19. Africa has to invest billions in developing its healthcare infrastructure, educate and train thousands of specialists to serve its rapidly growing population.

CapitalMed Medical City, Egypt

Developed by Egyptians for Healthcare Services, the project has a budget exceeding $1.1 billion and constructed in three phases on a four hundred and forty thousand square metre plot. Once completed, there will be more than two thousand beds, a teaching hospital, a 100-key five-star hotel, a landing strip for air ambulances and healing gardens.

700 Beds Hospital in Algiers, Algeria

China State Construction Engineering Corporation is constructing a 700-bed hospital in the Zahada suburb of Algiers on a two hundred thousand square metre plot. The hospital will accept its first patients in 2023.

Cote d’Ivoire Regional Hospitals, Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene is constructing four regional and two general hospitals in the Ivory Coast.  NMS Infrastructure Cote d’Ivoire is the main contractor. In total, there will be 640 beds in the six facilities.

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana

The African Development Bank Group and Deutsche Bank AG  are the lead financiers for this 300-bed facility in Kumasi, near Accra’s capital. Once completed, the 20-storey building will have one thousand beds. 

Zambia District Hospitals Project, Zambia

The design and build contract includes constructing a 200-bed hospital and one hundred-and-eight 21-bed clinics across the country.  NMS Infrastructure Zambia is executing the project on behalf of the Zambia Ministry of Health at an estimated cost of $300 million.
