What are the top 5 projects in Africa? Africa is growing at a rapid pace. Much needed infrastructure and other construction projects are needed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. Africa has more than USD $2.4 Trillion worth of active projects.

Here are 5 of the top projects in Africa:

Egypt’s New Capital City

Egypt’s new capital city is located 45 kilometres east of Cairo. The smart city consists of 21 residential districts and 25 commercial districts. Once complete, the city will have artificial lakes, a vast solar energy farm, and a massive recreational park. This recreational park will extend to be double the size of New York City’s Central Park. The new capital is expected to draw a population of 7 million people in its first phase. The currently unnamed capital city has an undisclosed total cost.

Konza Techno City

Developed by the Konza Technopolis Development Authority, Konza Techno city will cover more than twenty square kilometres and take more than a decade to complete. This is the largest project in Kenya. The Konza Techno City project has  an estimated budget of more than $14.5 billion. The first phase of the city is set to be completed by 2030, creating around 20,000 jobs. The entire Konza Techno City project, however, is expected to be finished by 2050.

Tanzania Railway

The new Tanzania railway is more than 1,450 kilometres long and is being constructed over five phases. This Tanzania Railway line  will handle more than 3 million tonnes of cargo and 1.1 million passengers every year. Developed by Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) with funding arranged by the World Bank Group and Turk Eximbank, contracts for all 5 phases have been awarded. A joint venture between Yapi Merkezi, Mota and Engil is carrying out the construction work for this Tanzania Railway line. Systra is the lead consultant.

The Grand Inga Dam project is a hydroelectric dam at Inga Falls. Inga Falls is located along the  Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Grand Inga Dam project is estimated to produce 40000MW of power.  This is nearly twice as much as the Three Gorges Dam in China. The Grand Inga Dam project is expected to cost between US $80-$100bn. Once completed, the Grand Inga Dam will be the world’s largest hydropower scheme.
