Namibia is the driest country in sub-Sahara Africa. It has a population of 2.5 million. By using ABiQ’s forecasting tool, we predict it will grow by 18.5% over the next 10 years and reach 3.0 million.
Namibia has limited natural water resources and has been facing prolonged droughts with intermittent rainfall. 70 percent of its water supply is from the rainfall of which 50 percent is lost due to evaporation. An aging infrastructure with poor maintenance and wastage has resulted in an overwhelming pressure on potable water supply.
Additional Water Required
As per business intelligence provider ABiQ, an increase in population along with all the existing challenges will require an additional 34 million cubic metres of potable water capacity by 2030. This ignores any industrialisation requirements and only covers population demand.
