By 20 April 2020, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has disbursed over US$4.3bn to African countries. A further $6.7bn will be released to those who have sought assistance due to the impact of COVID-19.

Many African countries’ healthcare systems are already overwhelmed and still trying to fight Ebola and Malaria. The rise of COVID-19 is putting more pressure on these under-resourced systems, exacerbating the need for financial support.
