Egypt’s population has already touched 100 million. The government is taking extra measures to slow down the accelerating growth rate, but the population will continue to grow. With the help of ABiQ’s forecasting tool, we can confidently predict that Egypt’s population will reach 123 million in the next 10 years.
Egypt had a GDP of $302 billion or slightly over $3,000 per capita in 2019. The economy has been given a boost by the increase in tourism and the discovery of gas fields. Egypt’s economy is predicted to become the world’s 7th largest economy by 2030.
Power and water
A growing population and increasing urbanization will result in a demand for producing additional electricity. Egypt aims to diversify its power resources in the next 10 years and the government is taking measures accordingly. We predict Egypt will require an additional 700 megawatts of electricity capacity in the coming decade.
The rapidly growing population and insufficient investment in infrastructure for water have caused a crisis. ABiQ predicts Egypt will need an additional 1,400 million cubic meters of potable water by 2030 if it wants to avoid a water crisis.
Retail
Consumers in Egypt still prefer a brick-and-mortar model for retail over eCommerce. The change will come but till that time, more retail space will be required. The market has been open for international players and the coming years will see an increase in demand. We believe Egypt will need over 2 million square metres of additional retail space by 2030.
Healthcare
The Egyptian government is working on achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030 and in order to do so, it needs more hospitals, physicians and medical staff. The population growth is not helping, and immediate measures need to be taken. ABiQ predicts Egypt will need an additional 140 hospitals to meet the country needs by 2030.
