The top 5 projects in the UAE are intriguing and inspiring projects. The UAE has a number of active mega projects covering several sectors. Over the last two decades, the UAE has led the way on mega construction projects globally. While most of those megaprojects are now complete, there are still several world-class projects in development. The UAE Construction Market was valued at USD 340 billion in Q1 2022.

Etihad Rail 

The Etihad Rail project was launched in June 2009. The Etihad Rail project is currently approximately 70 percent complete. The Etihad Rail System is set to link the principal centres of population and industry of the UAE. The Etihad Rail’s 1,200 kilometre network will extend across the UAE, from the border of Saudi Arabia to the border of Oman. Stage one of the Etihad Rail project has been completed. Stage two of the Etihad Rail project is expected to be completed in 2024.

One Za’abeel

The One Za’abeel project is located in Dubai. The project consists of two towers which will be linked by a suspended bridge located 100 metres above the ground. The towers are set to host offices, an ultra-luxury hotel & residences, high-end restaurants and a large retail area.

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi

An area of ​​more than 35,000 square metres has been allocated for the Natural History Museum in the centre of Saadiyat Island, an internationally renowned art hub. Lead architects, Mecanoo, designed the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi to resonate with natural rock formations, reflecting the museum’s goal of improving understanding of and engagement with the natural world. The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is due to be completed at the end of 2025.

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is a marine life theme park and animal research, rescue & rehabilitation centre. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is located on Yas Island and has been allocated an area of nearly 300,000 square metres.

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi will also feature the world’s largest marine-life aquarium, housing more than 68,000 marine animals, including sharks, schools of fish, manta rays and sea turtles. SewWorld Abu Dhabi is expected to open its doors in 2023.

Masaar – Sharjah Forest Community

The Sharjah Forest megaproject is being overseen by real estate developer Arada. The Sharjah Forest development  will feature 4,000 villas and townhouses split into eight gate districts with a ‘green spine’ of 50,000 trees across 19 million square feet.

Two contracts have been awarded for the Sharjah Forest development. The first contract  includes the construction of 142 villas in the Sendian district. This contract was awarded to Kuwait’s Mohammed Abdulmohsen Al-Kharafi & Sons (Al Kharafi). The second contract entails the construction of the remaining 288 homes. This contract was awarded to Intermass Engineering and Contracting Company. Some of the first homes within the Sharjah Forest development are expected to be handed over in Q1 of 2023.
